I was a board-certified chaplain for 27 years, 17 of them in healthcare and the majority of them in trauma centers. I was quite concerned about the lack of education among the medical staff, doctors and nurses, regarding addiction. One specialist told me that it was a social problem and I wanted to say, "Then why is your patient dying if it's just a social problem?" I earned a master's in addiction counseling four and a half years ago and worked in an inpatient treatment center, outpatient treatment center, a methadone clinic and now trying to establish my own online practice.
